The Global Passive House Happy Hour is held Wednesdays at 4 pm (Pacific), 7 pm (Eastern), midnight (British), and 9 am (Thursdays, Australian Eastern). Join us 30 minutes early for pre-show networking and stick around following the main event for our After Hour!
This week Sloan Ritchie and Brandon Nicholson will present on Pax Futura, the first Passive House apartment complex in Seattle. The mixed use, urban infill building has 32 studio and one-bedroom apartments, three live-work units and a commercial space at street level. The project is full of interesting high performance details, from its SIPs envelope to its sliding exterior shades to its innovative domestic hot water systems.
Nicholson is an architect and principal of NK Passive in Pittsburgh. Ritchie is owner and president of Cascade Built, a builder and developer widely recognized for its pioneering Passive House work in the Pacific Northwest. Ritchie developed and owns the Pax Futura building. The four-story building received a Edwards Mother Earth Foundation (EMEF) grant to support construction, including the installation of an innovative solar hot water system. The project is also Built Smart, making a point of material conservation and nontoxic finishes.
Join us on September 30 to learn about this hip new project that provides accessible, workforce housing in what is an expensive city.
