The Global Passive House Happy Hour is held Wednesdays at 4pm (Pacific), 7pm (Eastern), midnight (British), and 9am (Thursday, Australian Eastern). Join us 30 minutes early for pre-show networking, and stay for the After Hour immediately after the main event, too!
For many of us, the Passive House Happy Hours have been a light in gloomy times. These are NOT one-way webinars or typical Zoom experiences. By creating space for actual (albeit virtual) human interaction—socializing before, short breakout room sessions during, free-flowing discussion in the after-hour—we create and experience community, something many of us are pretty hungry for these days. That’s probably why hundreds of people sign on each week.
“Come for the content, stay for the camaraderie.”
Passive House retrofit underway at Carroll Center.
Of course, the Happy Hours are centered around “fast, factual, and fun” presentations by the world’s top Passive House practitioners and educators. This week is no different; we will future US Passive House trailblazer Tom Bassett-Dilley and the Carroll Center Renovation and Addition.
In our race against climate change, our collective ability to retrofit existing buildings will make or break us. So examples like the Carroll Center Passive House retrofit by Tom Bassett-Dilly Architects are invaluable, both in opening our minds to what’s possible but also in the actionable lessons they can provide us as we tackle our own deep energy retrofits. The Carroll Center, located in Oak Park, Illinois, is a community center for after school programs, day care, adult classes, and community meetings. Tom Bassett-Dilly Architect’s retrofit of the facility (currently underway) is pre-certified both PHIUS+ 2018 and PHUIS Source Zero, with a rooftop PV array that will bring the building to annual net-zero energy use.
Don’t miss this chance to learn how Tom and project team made it happen.
