Laura Nettleton is an architect with over 30 years’ experience in sustainable architecture, development, and community engagement. She is the founder of Thoughtful Balance, an architectural and consulting firm devoted to cutting edge sustainable and high-performance design solutions. Dedicated to the communities and individuals she serves, Laura is actively involved in spreading the word about Passive House. Laura founded Passive House Western Pennsylvania, a group dedicated to information and advocacy for Passive House in the Western Pennsylvania region. Laura’s work in Passive House retrofits is unparalleled in the US. She believes that sustainable and low-energy design should be affordable and available to everyone. She takes great comfort in the fact that cultures can radically change having been in the second class for women at Johns Hopkins, and the only non-smoker at her first job. She hopes to help initiate drastic change in the built environment.
When humans see a real threat to their health, people and governments CAN act very quickly.
Passive House is an antidote to issues architects frequently deal with.
