Tantrum Passive

The Tantrum building is a commercial infill Passive House project that will demonstrate the benefits of exceeding design and code minimums in what is typically an overlooked building typology. The narrow 7.6-meter by 39.5-meter site sits in Revelstoke’s downtown core amidst heritage-era low-rise buildings. Capped at three stories to fit in with the neighbourhood, the project houses a ground-floor retail unit with offices or a co-lab working area slated for the two floors above, one of which is a mezzanine.

To contend with the region’s short building season, construction options were shortlisted to either pre-fabricated or modular systems. Ultimately, floor and roof panels using CLT for the shear walls and wood fiber insulation were utilised to increase build speed and help achieve the Passive House performance goals.
