Passive House Dorm at Univ of Toronto: Marine Sanchez to Headline PH Happy Hour (Sep 16)

September 11, 2020

The Global Passive House Happy Hour is held Wednesdays at 4 pm (Pacific), 7 pm (Eastern), midnight (British), and 9 am (Thursdays, Australian Eastern). Join us 30 minutes early for pre-show networking and stick around following the main event for our After Hour!

In recent years Toronto has stepped up in implementing the Passive House standard in residential and commercial buildings. This week Marine Sanchez, Passive House Specialist and PHI-accredited Certifier at RDH Building Science, joins us for our Wednesday Happy Hour to discuss University of Toronto Scarborough Campus’ (UTSC) latest student housing project. The Passive House residence hall will be 8–10 stories, 280,000 square feet featuring 750 dorm rooms and 340 restrooms. The primary entry will be a semi-public space for the campus community and guests as well as house a new dining hall, mixed-use work space, retail space, a wellness studio, student lounges, housing offices and visiting scholar suites.

Sanchez, a Toronto resident, has been a regular Passive House trainer in the UK and Canada since 2013 in addition to her experience in the design process and on-site management of low-energy buildings. She is also actively involved in Toronto’s Zero Emissions Buildings Framework and Toronto Green Standard (TGS). Passive House Accelerator had the opportunity to hear first hand how TGS is upping building standards in Toronto with a goal of net-zero ready buildings by 2030 in our Q&A with Sanchez.

Apart from Sanchez’s overseeing of the UTSC residence hall she is also currently leading a Passive House residence hall project at University of Victoria and consulting on mid-rise and high-rise Passive House residential buildings. Join us to hear more about Toronto’s exciting Passive House developments during our Global Passive House Happy Hour.
