In this video, join us for an in-depth look at 819 Grand Street, a groundbreaking all-electric, Passive House-designed affordable senior housing project in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This 217-unit, 14-story residence is a NYSERDA Building of Excellence Demonstration Project, setting a new standard for sustainability and energy efficiency in affordable housing. Designed to seamlessly integrate with an existing senior residence, the project will create an amenity-rich, campus-style living environment for 367 residents while achieving energy savings that surpass typical new construction affordable housing developments. Key innovations include geothermal heating, cooling, and domestic hot water, as well as the potential integration of a building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) facade system to help the building reach net zero. Our presenters, Crystal Ng (Curtis + Ginsberg Architects), Mark Ginsberg (Curtis + Ginsberg Architects), and Jill Chen (Mitrex), will discuss the environmental justice benefits of Passive House design for vulnerable populations, strategies for reducing operational and embodied carbon, and the financial and regulatory challenges of implementing BIPV in multifamily housing. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from industry leaders shaping the future of high-performance affordable housing.
