Passive House Accelerator is pleased to welcome Bauen Build as part of the Accelerator Partner Program.
Based in Boulder, Colorado, Bauen Build focuses on delivering ultra high-performance custom homes rooted in Passive House principles. Their work reflects a growing commitment within the building industry to move beyond minimum code and toward homes designed for long-term comfort, durability, and performance.
One of the ways Bauen contributes to the Passive House community is through open knowledge sharing. As part of that effort, the Bauen team recently published a Passive House Design Guide for Architects & Engineers, a concise resource that distills lessons learned from years of building high-performance homes in Colorado’s Front Range. The guide focuses on the practical side of Passive House delivery, highlighting field-tested details that help translate building science into buildable design.
Rather than focusing on theory, the guide addresses the kinds of practical questions project teams encounter every day: how to maintain air barrier continuity at floor transitions, coordinate mechanical systems without compromising airtightness, and detail structural elements to avoid thermal bridging. The goal is to make high-performance construction easier to execute and more dependable in the field.
Many of the strategies highlighted in the guide have been applied in Bauen Build projects including Garden House and Flatirons (detailed below), where the team collaborated closely with architects and trade partners to implement rigorous detailing that supports long-term building performance.
By sharing their design guide and project experience with the community, Bauen Build is contributing practical knowledge that helps advance high-performance construction across the industry.
