FAKRO Has Become a Champion Sponsor of the Accelerator

FAKRO has become the latest Champion Sponsor of Passive House Accelerator. Since being established in Poland in 1991, Founder Ryszard Florek has expanded FAKRO to become a globally recognized manufacturer of roof windows, skylights, hatches, attic ladders, and accessories. They are now the second largest manufacturer of roof windows worldwide and distribute to more than 50 countries. In addition to roof systems, FAKRO now offers the highest quality vertical joinery products, as well as garage and entrance doors under the INNOVIEW brand.

FAKRO’s recipe for success has largely been due to a combination of development, innovation, and reliability. More than 100 engineers work to make innovations to FAKRO’s existing line of products and to develop new solutions for the roof window industry. Their focus on reliability includes not only creating durable and high-quality products but also providing customers with exemplary supportive services whether they are architects, designers, contractors, developers, or homeowners.

All FAKRO products are designed to have exceptional performance, but two components have been certified by the Passive House Institute, including the LWT attic staircase and the FTT U8 roof window.

The LWT attic staircase is thermally broken and can serve as an effective barrier between an uncomfortably cold or hot attic and a more comfortable living space below. The 3 1/8-inch door comes equipped with a triple gasket system to prevent heat transfer and achieves an R-value of 12.5. An optional upper hatch can be installed to bump the R-value up to 21.75.

The FTT U8 is a quadruple-paned roof window filled with krypton gas. Its exterior pane of tempered glass enhances the unit’s durability. The FTT U8 also comes with five seals, helping it achieve an outstanding thermal transference value of Uw = 0.10208 BTU/h·ft²·F (0.58 W/m²K), Ug = 0.0528 BTU/h·ft²·F (0.3 W/m²K), and an R-value of 9.1. On top of providing excellent thermal comfort, the FTT U8 also offers acoustic comfort, with an Rw value of 37 dB. Beyond its first-rate performance, the FTT U8 is stylish, easy to operate, and can be customized with additional accessories such as external and internal blinds, or venetian blinds.

“Partnering with the Accelerator presents a great opportunity to speak directly to members of the Passive House community in the U.S. and beyond,” said FAKRO Operations and Technical Manager Tomasz Glab. “We believe it will allow us to introduce our high-performance components to more builders, designers, and homeowners who prioritize energy efficiency and durability in their projects.”

“We’re excited to have FAKRO join on as a Champion Sponsor,” said Passive House Accelerator Founder Michael Ingui. “They make some outstanding products, but one of the things that I really like about them is the amount of variety they offer for components that can be difficult to source. There are not a lot of manufacturers who can provide high-performance roof windows, hatches, and skylights. I think the Accelerator community is going to appreciate learning more about FAKRO’s product line and finding ways to incorporate them into their projects.”
