International Passive House Conference to Close Call for Papers August 31

The call for papers for the 29th International Passive House Conference is set to close at the end of the month. The IPHC will be held in the Austrian city of Innsbruck April 2-3, 2027, and will bring together Passive House practitioners from around the world who will share experiences, research results, new tools, and innovations that advance building science and make homes healthier, more comfortable, and more efficient.

Those interested in submitting a proposal, should focus on one of the following topics:

  • Project highlights worldwide

  • Multistory residential buildings, affordable housing, non-residential buildings, and special use cases

  • Buildings under challenging climatic conditions

  • Fast and simple retrofits

  • Retrofits for homeowner associations

  • Retrofitting historic and landmarked buildings

  • Low energy consumption as a prerequisite for energy positive buildings and districts

  • Energy efficiency strategies for reducing emissions at the district level

  • Novel uses of renewable energy for grid resiliency

  • Energy-efficient components taken a step further

  • Clever concepts for façade integration

  • Complete systems from one source

  • Balanced ventilation and improved IAQ in new builds and retrofits

  • Experiences with user-friendly heat pump solutions

  • Electrification of building services in existing buildings

  • Proven financial models for PHI or EnerPHit certification

  • Life-cycle optimized projects including material choices

  • Designing resilient buildings for a more unpredictable climate

  • Innovative uses of PHPP and supplementary tools

  • Methods and field reports on quality insurance during the design and implementation phases

  • Facts and figures: Successful monitoring concepts and results

  • Policies and incentives that contribute to stability, resource equality, and the prevention of conflicts

  • Socially equitable distribution of renewable energy and measures to tackle energy poverty

  • Proven and innovative communication strategies

  • Concepts for involving interested young people

Guidelines for Your Abstract Submission

Please prepare a text document of 3,000 characters or less (including spaces). During the submission process, you will be asked to copy and paste your text into a designated dialogue box. In the following step, you will have the opportunity to upload up to 3 pictures and/or graphs in a separate upload field.

If your abstract deals with a building project, please pay particular attention to the following aspects if possible:

  • Did you face any challenges (e.g.: Was it a heritage building? Did you have to use interior insulation?)? How did you overcome these challenges?

  • What were the lessons learned? What would you do differently if you had to re-start the project?

  • Did you implement innovative strategies that were new in your project country or that had not been applied to your specific building type before?

  • If available, please provide the (expected) yearly running costs and the (expected) investment payback.

  • If available, please include user feedback.

  • Please provide as much detail as possible and avoid vague language or rhetorical questions!

If you are selected as a speaker, you will be asked to:

  • Give a 20- to 25-minute presentation (1 speaker and max. 1 co-speaker; short group Q&A at the end; using a PowerPoint slideshow is recommended)

  • Submit a 2-, 4- or maximum 6-page article to the digital conference proceedings (you choose the length)

  • Attend the conference in Innsbruck, Austria (at a reduced speaker price)

The Passivhaus Institute intends to record all sessions and share them as on demand videos with the conference participants after the event. If you are a group of authors, please choose one speaker and a maximum of one co-speaker to attend the event.
