Special Event: Live with the Authors: The Good Building Book

special event (5)

What does it really mean to build well today?

Join us for a special conversation with a co-author of The Good Building Book, a recently published guide that challenges conventional thinking around design, construction, and performance. This session explores key themes from the book, including the perceived tension between architecture, building performance, and affordability—and why that tradeoff may not be as fixed as it seems.

Drawing from a range of projects across housing, schools, and civic buildings, the discussion will focus on practical principles that can be applied across project types and scales. From early design decisions to the details that shape long-term performance, we’ll unpack what it takes to deliver buildings that work—for people, budgets, and the environment.

Our speaker, Nick Grant, is a freelance energy consultant and principal of Elemental Solutions. A pioneer of the Passivhaus Standard in the UK, his work has long focused on closing the gap between design intent and real-world performance. He brings a rare combination of technical expertise and hands-on experience as an engineer and self-builder, along with deep industry leadership as former Trustee of the AECB and current Technical Director of the Passivhaus Trust.
