WED: Layering Thermal Control into an Existing Building

Nakita Reed, Senior Associate at Quinn Evans Architects, will be our featured speaker at our December Next Gen session, sharing insights into The Compound Rowhouse project in Baltimore, Maryland. This groundbreaking project involves the transformation of four dilapidated row homes into two cutting-edge communal residential units, becoming the first Phius certified project in Maryland.

The retrofit not only preserves the authentic charm of the existing historic buildings but also significantly enhances interior insulation and efficiency. During the session, Nakita will explore the critical aspects of the project, emphasizing the importance of meticulous detailing, overcoming challenges related to adding a third floor, incorporating an innovative exterior cork product, and the valuable lessons learned throughout the transformative process.

THURS: Superior Weather Tightness and Protection for Modern Methods of Construction

Hugh Whiriskey, Founder and Director of Partel, will join us for a Component Spotlight event featuring Superior Weather Tightness and Protection for Modern Methods of Construction. The presentation will focus on recently developed EXOPERM MONO SA 250, which responds to the modern construction challenges and further complements Partel’s range of breathable membranes. It combines all the advantages of one of Partel's most reliable exterior membranes – EXOPERM MONO 150, with complimentary benefits that assist in keeping your project on schedule and enhancing the energy performance of the building for a long operational lifetime.

This high-performance weather membrane integrates two proven technologies – Self-Adhesive Technology and Monolithic Technology – resulting in an innovative completely adherent, vapour permeable, and extremely durable membrane for increased protection of assembly during the construction process and long after. These benefits enable a faster, easier, and safe membrane application for both on-site and factory installation methods.

As a Founder and Director of Partel, Hugh drives the business vision, strategy, and product innovation. He is a Certified Passive House Designer and a leading specialist in sustainable building and energy efficiency with extensive knowledge in design and construction management, building fabrics, technical engineering, and R&D. He has wealth of expertise within the low-energy construction sector across various roles such as technical engineer, project manager, contracts manager, product training, and in recent years as a technical director – BEng MIEI CEPH. With over 23 years of experience in the industry, he has been involved in many different projects ranging in scale and complexity from large commercial & residential developments to bespoke residential dwellings.
