Staengl Engineering is the latest firm to become an Accelerator Partner. Staengl is a full-service, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering design, building science, and energy consulting firm based in Central Virginia. They provide support throughout the life cycle of a building, from initial concept, to integrated design, to final testing and commissioning. They work in partnership with owners, builders, architects, developers, mechanical contractors, and energy providers who want to improve the performance of residential and commercial buildings.

Staengl Engineering Becomes Accelerator Partner
Staengl has an exceptional reputation within the high-performance building community and beyond due to their abilities to find practical, elegant solutions to real-world design challenges with the goal of creating simple, energy-efficient systems for sustainable projects with little or no cost premium over conventional, less efficient designs. Staengl has extensive experience working on high-performance building projects that have pursued and obtained certification through third-party organizations like Phius, the Passive House Institute, LEED, and the International Living Buildings Institute. Founder Galen Staengl, P.E., is also part of the technical committee for Phius, and the firm is proud to support the Architecture 2030 Challenge.
Staengl says that he discovered Passive House approximately 15 years ago, and that it fundamentally changed the direction of the firm. Rather than taking a systems-centric approach to engineering, the firm now takes a more holistic view of the building, with special consideration for the performance of the enclosure. The challenge now, as they see it, is to use integrated design to create low-energy buildings that embody elegance, inspire visitors and occupants, and maximize economy.
Staengl’s dedication to transformative design practices and innovation has allowed them to work with the project design team to create comfortable, healthy, vibrant spaces where people live and work. As their portfolio reveals, they have variety of building typologies across North America.
