101: Passive House & Low-Carbon: Aligning with Multiple Certifications

101 may 7th

Passive House certification can serve as a launchpad for achieving additional green building certifications such as LEED, Zero Energy, Zero Carbon, Living Building Challenge, Fitwel, and WELL. To support this, PHI and Phius have developed “crosswalks” that align Passive House with other frameworks, making it easier to pursue multiple certifications in parallel.

This 101 Session will explore key features of major certification programs and offer guidance on how to align project goals to maximize impact through certification stacking.

Topics will include:

  • The benefits of pursuing additional certifications beyond Passive House

  • How to evaluate the best fit among various green building programs

  • Strategic steps for aligning goals early in the project process

Our speakers, Dan Swaab and Mike Fowler of Mithun, bring deep expertise in sustainable design and certification strategy. Dan is a Principal with over 25 years of experience leading commercial, residential, and institutional projects, specializing in complex, multi-unit buildings. Mike, a Sustainability Integration Leader and Associate Principal, focuses on energy codes, decarbonization, and occupant health, with projects that have achieved LEED Platinum, Living Building Challenge Petal, Passive House, and Zero Energy certifications.

This free presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 22nd at 9am PT / 12pm ET and will be followed by a lively Q+A session. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from industry leaders and engage with the PHA community. See you there!
