Join us for an informative event focused on the obstacles and opportunities in implementing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) in the construction industry. As the adoption of DfMA gains momentum, several challenges persist—particularly around the fragmentation of data formats, limited interoperability between software platforms, and the critical need for better collaboration among stakeholders. This talk will address these hurdles and explore how innovative approaches, like leveraging Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), can help streamline processes and pave the way for a more cohesive, collaborative construction environment.
The session will focus on how challenges around the exchange of Building Information Modeling (BIM) data impact the adoption of DfMA, particularly in offsite construction. Attendees will gain insights into how standardized data formats, such as IFC, can enhance the coordination of design and manufacturing processes. Alex Giblin will discuss strategies for implementing IFC to improve project workflows, exchange of geometry and attribution, and create efficiencies across the design-to-manufacturing process. This exploration of interoperability standards will highlight the importance of embracing open-source solutions to support scalable, sustainable construction practices.
With over 20 years of field experience, Alex Giblin brings a unique perspective to the conversation. At GO Logic, he focuses on integrating BIM tools and developing open-source standards to improve DfMA processes. His work includes extending the IFC schema to describe panelized building assemblies and creating workflows that enhance interoperability. In this session, Alex will share insights and practical strategies for overcoming current challenges and driving more efficient, collaborative offsite construction.
This free presentation will take place on Wednesday, November 13th at 9am PT / 12pm ET and will be followed by a lively Q+A session. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from industry leaders and engage with the PHA community. See you there!
