The market is moving beyond the question of whether multifamily buildings can be electrified. The more useful question now is:
What heat pump solutions work for different building types, and what can we learn from projects that have already designed, built, commissioned, and operated them?
This solutions focused symposium organizes that conversation around three building scales—small, medium, and large.
Each scale presents a different set of opportunities and constraints:
Small buildings: packaged systems, distributed solutions, limited mechanical space, simplicity, and product integration.
Medium buildings: system selection, hydronic distribution, central versus distributed approaches, DHW, electrical capacity, and constructability.
Large buildings: complex distribution, refrigerant management, central plants, ground-source systems, heat recovery, roof and equipment space, phasing, and integration with large multifamily operations.
Drawing on the Heat Pump Solutions Labs held through the Reimagine Buildings Collective over the summer, this symposium brings the key lessons, solutions, and discussions from those sessions back to the broader industry. Rather than presenting technology in isolation, the program uses real projects and solutions explored in the Labs to examine what was selected, why it was selected, what happened during implementation, and what should be done differently on the next project.
