Our final event of January will focus on NYSERDA Buildings of Excellence Early Design Support Research into affordability and building electrification. The discussion will frame the challenges and opportunities of multi-family affordable electrification, while providing an overview of cost reduction strategies with an emphasis on geothermal.

After attending this presentation, attendees will be able to:

- Describe the financial obstacles to electrifying affordable housing, multi-family buildings

- Identify multiple strategies to improve energy performance and occupant health while reducing operational costs of electrified affordable housing multifamily buildings

- Discuss the financial, energy, carbon and logistical benefits and challenges of implementing geothermal heating, cooling and hot water in urban building projects

We will be joined by Ana Leopold and Grayson Jordan of Paul A. Castrucci Architects. Ana is an Assistant Project Manager and Energy Analyst, where she focuses on sustainable, climate-resilient design for affordable housing and community-driven projects. Her work includes flood resilience efforts like the Baruch Houses retrofit after Hurricane Sandy, as well as energy reduction strategies for NYCHA campuses. Ana holds a Master’s in Architecture and a B.S. in Architecture from Northeastern University.

Grayson is a Certified Passive House Consultant and Registered Architect with extensive experience in energy efficiency and sustainability across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. He has led high-impact projects like the R-951 Residence, NYC's first Passive House Net Zero building, and the award-winning Bethany Senior Terraces. Grayson is also an advocate for social equity in design through his work with the AIA COTE Social Equity Committee and the NYC Energy Code Advisory Board.
