dbHMS was founded in 2002 on the principles of integrated project delivery and sustainable design.
We are a minority-owned business (MBE) with 80 employees across all offices: our headquarters in Chicago, Grand Rapids, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Boston. We work on projects across the country. Our design team provides a full range of design services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection, lighting, and information technology design. Our commissioning team includes experts in building commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning, and building envelope commissioning. DataBased+, our research driven human center design studio, specializes in sustainability consulting and planning and high-performance building simulation, including energy modeling, daylight analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
In DataBased+, we put people first: project occupants, our clients, and anyone impacted by our projects. Our approach works within the logistic and budgetary constraints of our clients to deliver cost-optimal high-performance approaches that meet project quality expectations without sacrificing the quality of life of any person. The key to the successful marrying of cost-optimization and human-centered design rests in a combination of rigorous study and client-centered communication, moving our clients from concept to design to occupancy to verification in a hassle-free working relationship.
dbHMS is currently the MEP design engineer on four multifamily Passive House projects. DataBased+ is currently providing Certified Passive House Consulting on five multifamily Passive House projects.
