As one of the founders of CAST architecture, Matt has spent more than twenty years working to increase the vitality of the city and the environment. Through the thoughtful design of housing, vibrant urban spaces, advocacy for more open space and better density, and inclusive community design, Matt brings idealism and experience to each project. His design work integrates architecture and landscape, plans for flexible function, and builds for longevity and performance. He is pragmatic, collaborative, and always client-centered.
Advocacy and public education on topics such as abundant urban housing options, backyard cottages, Residential Small Lot Zoning, sustainable building and zoning reform are a large component of his mission. He co-chairs AIA Seattle’s Housing Task Force and serves on the Public Policy Board and Housing Design Forum Committee. He is on the Southwest Design Review Board. In 2017, he co-founded MOAR (More Options for Accessory Residences), a grassroots organization that helped pass Seattle’s landmark ADU reform.
He was named as one of the 35 Most Influential People by Seattle Magazine in 2019.
Matt is a registered architect in Washington. He graduated with Honors from the University of Colorado, and Distinction from Arizona State University. He has taught design at the University of Washington and Arizona State University.
Away from the office, Matt loves to explore the big, wide world with his wife and daughter.
