Charlotte's Retrofit

This was the first Passive House EnerPHIT retrofit in the United States. It was designed and retrofitted in 2010 by Chris Corson, the Founder and Owner/Technical Director of Ecocor, LLC. The original house was built in 1965, and has been owned by Chris and his wife since 2005. The driver for this design was to reduce the carbon footprint of the home. Before the retrofit, the owners spent >$4000.00 dollars a year on heat and domestic hot water. After the PH retrofit, they spend on average $350.00 a year for all of their heat and hot water. A 5.6 kW PV system offsets about half of the family's annual electrical consumption. There are two home office's and multiple computers and devices, so energy consumption is high compared to the average home.
