The Peak

The Peak is a 6-storey Passive House apartment building with 52 Residential Rental Units and 2 Commercial Rental Units. Located on the corner of Rupert and East 22nd Avenue, some suites will have unobstructed views of the North Shore and Downtown.

"Passive House (Passivhaus) buildings consume up to 90 percent less heating and cooling energy than conventional buildings. Applicable to almost any building type or design, the Passive House high-performance building standard is the only internationally recognized, proven, science-based energy standard in construction. Certification ensures that designers and consultants are expertly qualified to design buildings to meet the standard."

The concept for the building is a base massing represented by the darker paneling that contrasts with the white “superstructure” projecting beyond. The “superstructure” transitions from a solid massing near the corner to a more open structure of balconies with a loose random organizational pattern more characteristic of lower-scale residential neighborhoods. The long balconies help to reduce the apparent scale of the building and doubles as a solar shading device, especially towards the south and west. Windows that are not shaded by balconies or overhangs will be fitted with automatic exterior solar blinds to further reduce overheating. Heat Recovery Ventilators fitted heat pumps will continuously supply tempered fresh air to living and sleeping areas and continuously exhaust bathroom and kitchen areas.
