Construction Tech went back to school on September 7, 2021, with another trip to the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s High-Performance Building lab at the Zero Energy Building Learning Centre. Kevin Brennan, Shannon Pendleton, and Mark Wille virtually joined fellow cohost Shaun St-Amour, who was onsite at the lab with Alex Hebert and Mary McWilliam to explore LEEP (Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships) mock-ups and more.
The three showcased best practices on how to:
keep bulk water away from buildings
ensure we create continuous air barriers
place the vapor control layer in the correct position based on the local climate zone
install an adequate amount of insulation based on the energy model.
They also reviewed the four major connections of your air barrier system:
Foundation to Wall
Wall to Window
Wall to Roof
Electrical and Plumbing Penetrations
