At its heart, the Passive House movement tells a different story about how humans can understand and value buildings. More than ever before, visual culture dominates people’s experience of buildings and the world while other “invisible” forms of experience are undervalued even though they may be more impactful to people’s health and well-being in the present and future. These phenomena may be invisible, but they are tangible and measurable things like indoor air quality, the flow of thermal energy, embodied carbon impact, or even the smell of a building. This presentation will focus on how shifts in storytelling around air quality and healthy, low-carbon materials can help to correct this visual bias through elaborating the fundamental value of these “invisible” things and the positive impact they can have on your quality of life.
