Construction Tech Tuesday welcomed Prudence Ferreira of BR+A Consulting Engineers last week. Prudence is a Passive House guru with more than a decade of experience working on Passive House projects and is also well known among the Passive House community for her extensive work as a PHIUS trainer. There are very few people who have such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to implementing practical solutions to make sure a project gets built on time and on budget, and then goes on to ace its blower door test.
It was therefore fitting that Prudence’s presentation focused on the almost innumerable don’ts and more select dos of Passive House construction. “It’s not about showing dirty laundry from lots of projects,” she said before diving into her slide deck. “It’s more about how we can do better as builders, as trades, as an industry, to help ourselves and to help each other.”
Check out Prudence’s slide deck here.
Whether you spend most of your time on the jobsite or behind the drafting table, and no matter how much experience you have working on Passive House projects, Prudence’s presentation is something that should be enjoyed in full and the core messages that she presents (particularly about better, earlier, and more frequent communication being necessary ingredients for success) are something that everyone involved in any project should take to heart. Furthermore, this is a system agnostic presentation; all the lessons Prudence shares can be incorporated into the routine of anyone involved in the design and construction of a Passive House building.
