This Passive House Accelerator’s weekly happy hour was headlined by three teams of students from the University of Arizona, who all participated in the annual Solar Decathlon competition. Ellie Franzen and Rachel Schultz presented their project, “The Loop”, first, a dense housing agglomeration that used sunblock production for energy storage. The second team was represented by Noëlle Van Lerberghe and Lydia Roberts, and their project was titled “Barrio Oeste”. It placed second in the mixed-use multi-family category of the decathlon and was designed to provide healthy living conditions for its residents even in 2080 when climate change will likely have risen average ambient temperatures by over ten degrees Fahrenheit. The third and final team was represented by Taylor Forsberg, who presented on “Camino Verde”, a series of ADUs organized along a greenway. With four different unique designs, and panelized wall assemblies, it focused on a desert building tradition, low carbon design, and affordability as its three main aspects.
