Here's what Shaun says about his entry on the DIY Hero website:
TELL US ABOUT A FAVORITE PROJECT THAT YOU'VE WORKED ON?
The PH-Art Shack that I have submitted is about a much larger communication campaign towards higher performing homes. This concept was originally inspired from the 2017 Ice Box Challenge in Vienna. I was lucky to be a part of a team that created our own version and it traveled from Vancouver to Seattle, then to the east coast where it was on display in New York's Times Square, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Pittsburgh. This challenge showcased a code-built box and a Passive House box.
WHICH PROJECT WOULD YOU SHOWCASE IN MAKE MAGAZINE?
I would showcase the PH-Art Shack because it's the Ice Box Challenge 2.0. This creation allows guests to experience the benefits of a Passive House, which are a more comfortable, healthy, quieter, energy efficient, resilient, and durable home. Once you witnessed the PH-Art Shack, you will get the Passive House experience. This structure is also a mock-up for B Collective's B.O.S.S. (Building Off-site Sustainable System). Finally, this project enabled me to provide my dad with a Passive House
WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THE $25,000?
I would use $10k to pay for the rest of the finishing materials so we can continue to put our sweat equity into it. This award would assist in getting it completed quicker. I would place $10k in a fund so that at least 1 graduating red seal carpentry student would be able to take the Passive House Tradesperson course on a scholarship. The final $5K would be used to communicate how more PH-Art Shacks or Experience Passive House Experience structures can be created around North America.
