Brooklyn Couple Retrofits Brownstone Built in 1889 to Meet Passive House Standard

Ruth Mandl and Bobby Johnson, the wife-and-husband team behind CO Adaptive, recently retrofitted their Brooklyn brownstone to meet the Passive House standard. The project has already attracted media attention from heavy hitters like the New York Times and Architect Magazine. Architectural Digest is now getting in on the story, highlighting how the team was able to preserve many of the home’s original, nineteenth-century details while converting it to net-positive energy. “Because we also have solar panels on our roof, over the year we put more energy into the grid than we take out—even factoring in that we charge our electric car.”
