Farr Associates to break Ground on Affordable and Passive House Development Next Month in Gary, Indiana

The Broadway Lofts project in Gary, Indiana is expected to break ground September 1. Part of Indiana’s Moving Forward initiative, which incentivizes the creation of net-zero and transit-oriented affordable housing, the new development is expected to be completed sometime next year and will be Passive House certified. The project will include 38 one- and two-bedroom, as well as 4,000 square feet of commercial space that will include a clinic and a workforce development training center. As much of Gary is considered a food desert, the building will also be home to a commercial grade greenhouse, thereby ensuring residents access to healthy foods.

To learn more about the project, see the Energy News Network post on the subject here. To hear more about from part of the project’s design team at Farr Associates, check out their recent presentation at the New Gravity Housing Conference once those videos are available.
