TUE: LIVING THE 1.5 DEGREE LIFESTYLE, A DISCUSSION WITH LLOYD ALTER OF TREEHUGGER

LloydAlterEvent

Stop thinking about efficiency and start thinking about sufficiency.

Living the 1.5 Degree Lifestyle, the new book written by Lloyd Alter, reveals the carbon cost of everything we do, identifying where we can make big reductions, while not sweating the small stuff.

The international scientific consensus is that we have less than a decade to drastically slash our collective carbon emissions to keep global heating to 1.5 degrees and avert catastrophe. This means that many of us have to cut our individual carbon footprints by over 80% to 2.5 tonnes per person per year by 2030. But where to start? Register here to find out!

Join Us for a Discussion with Lloyd Alter and Special Guests:
Tuesday, March 29, 4pm Pacific • 7pm Eastern

MASS TIMBER SUPPORTS MID-RISE HOUSING

In the latest article published on the Accelerator site, Mary James describes a new mass timber project in Boston. "While conceptualizing early design ideas for a multifamily building in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Monte French, principal of Monte French Design Studio (MFDS), and Alex Yoon, project manager, were searching for an elegant solution to the question of how to fit seven stories of aesthetically pleasing residential units into a structure that is less than 70 feet. At 70 feet the building would become subject to Boston’s more cost-prohibitive requirements that apply to high-rise construction. That conundrum prompted the team to consider the advantages of a mass timber structure." Continue reading.

PhiusCon 2022: Emissions Down, Power Up! (Oct 25-28)
PhiusCon is coming home to Chicago Oct. 25-28 at the historic Palmer House. Last year, Phius set its sights on expansion with its motto “Emissions Down, Scale Up!” and despite the obstacles presented by COVID, shared that vision with a sold-out crowd in Tarrytown, New York. PhiusCon 2021 created a wave of momentum, and Phius is looking to carry that into PhiusCon 2022 as it builds for the future. And you can’t talk about building for the future without mentioning electrification, so Phius decided to put a charge into this year’s motto: “Emissions Down, Power Up!” Call for Speakers.
