TUE: COMPONENT SPOTLIGHT—475 Introduces the FLAIR 325/400 from Brink

WED: Affordable Multi-Family Passive House: A Denser Path to Clean

John Woelfling (Principal, Dattner Architects) will join PHA Live! Project Showcase to discuss how the density associated with urban multi-family buildings can make achieving passive house performance much more attainable, even on an affordable housing budget. Get the Zoom link

THUR: Urban Passive House, Episode 2

Presented by New York Passive House and Passive House Accelerator, the Urban Passive House Series explores Passive House solutions and lessons learned for urban settings, drawing on built examples from major metropolises across North America. Episode 2 features Sara Bayer (MAP). She will discuss Cooper Park Commons, a multi-building development on the former Greenpoint Hospital site in the East Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. It will offer nearly 500 units of affordable housing, 110 units of senior affordable housing, a 200-bed homeless shelter, a health clinic, retail and community facility space, and public open space. Habit Studio Rehabilitates Historic Halifax Home

Construction is in progress on Halifax, Nova Scotia’s first Passive House retrofit, designed by Habit Studio and built by Root Developments. The project involves the conversion of a two-story 1850s home into office space for the Habit Studio team. Habit Studio is an eight-woman design firm that specializes in custom Passive Houses and sustainable whole home renovations. Continue reading

4. New Videos

Chris Fuller (Staengl Engineering) joins Construction Tech to illustrate how different heating and cooling system choices stack up to each other in their energy consumption and carbon emission impacts for a real apartment building (nearing completion) in Pittsburgh. He gives concrete examples of how different dehumidification systems and domestic hot water systems fare against each other as well. In total 14 different HVAC/hot water system types are discussed; they were all modeled and analyzed for their embodied carbon, operational carbon, and refrigerant leak impacts.

Mitsubishi joins the Accelerator to introduce the Heat2O Domestic Hot Water Heat Pump, a revolution in sustainable water heating. Energy-efficient and environmentally friendly Heat2O uses a natural CO2 refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) of 1 and an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0. This presentation demonstrates how the Heat2O system can help achieve the energy savings and carbon reduction goals central to the Passive House movement and future-proof your project, your plans, and your vision with Mitsubishi’s all-electric domestic hot water heat pump system.

Passive House Massachusetts Symposium (Nov 16)
PHMass welcomes you to join them as they return to an in-person Symposium and Push the Boundaries of Passive House. Featuring presentations, case studies, panel discussions, and networking, all in person at the BSA Space in Boston. Early Bird Registration is now open!

International Passive House Association Conference 2023 (March 10-11)
The 26th International Passive House Conference will be held in the state capital of Hesse in 2023. #EfficiencyNOW will be the focal theme of the event. The Conference will demonstrate how buildings that use very little energy for heating and cooling can be supplied with renewable energy reliably and at scale, a timely topic. The Conference will take place in person in Wiesbaden from March 10-11, 2023. Simultaneously, online events will be available. The Call for Papers is open until 2 September 2022. The event will be held under the auspice of the Minister of Economic Affairs of the German state of Hesse.
