2. TUE: Building Systems for Supply & Labor Shortages

James Hartford, of River Architects, will join the Construction Tech crew on Tuesday, September 28 to talk about alternative building systems in light of labor and supply shortages. Located in the Hudson Valley, James is known for his Passive House projects like the Seminary Hill Cidery and his retrofitted office. During the last year, James and his team have made strides to create resilient building systems. James will dive into the technique, technical, and technology that can aid high-performance building in a changing market. Learn more.

3. WED: Recladding a 20-Story Apartment Bldg in NYC

On September 29, Alissa will join the Global Passive House Showcase to present on the retrofit of a 20-story residential high rise in Manhattan. In anticipation of New York City’s ambitious Climate Mobilization Act, the brick façade 1960’s building will undergo recladding while also creating an architecturally distinctive update that will reposition the building for the coming climate changes.  Alissa will discuss the real-world challenge, and strategies of upgrading the energy performance of existing, occupied buildings. Learn more.

4. NOW LIVE: Episode 54 of the Passive House Podcast

Matthew interviews Jason Quinn, founding director of Sustainable Engineering Ltd. Jason spent a decade as a rocket scientist at NASA before he and his family relocated to New Zealand in 2009. He soon became one of New Zealand’s first certified Passive House designers and in 2016 traveled to Germany for further training and exams to become the country’s first Passive House certifier. Matthew and Jason's conversation ranges from the compendium of building details that Jason recently spearheaded, to the relationship between international ISO standards and PHI's Passive House standard, to the power of the simple maxim "cold spots create mold spots", and to Jason's current building science practice.
