On Tuesday, November 2 (10 am PT/ 2pm ET), Passive House Accelerator is partnering with the AIAS chapter from New York Institute of Technology to bring students a free and open-to-all crash course in Passive House design and careers. This 1-hour lunchtime special will take a dive into the design principles that drive Passive House performance, the wide range of building typologies possible, and how to become a certified Passive House designer or consultant.

On November 2 Ilka Cassidy and Steve Hessler return to dive into the SIMM™ (single integrated manufacturing model) method of prefabrication pioneered by Holzraum System. Ilka, guest cohost for the Passive House Podcast, is a principal and envelope consultant at Holzraum with experience in energy modeling and sustainable design. Steve, a structural-thermal envelope designer at Holzraum, has experience in project management, construction, and residential design (check out Steve’s SIMM Part 1 presentation here). Learn more.
Last fall the CZU Lightning Complex fire destroyed over nine hundred homes in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The devastating loss affected an area already dealing with a housing shortage and affordability crisis. On November 3, Jonah Stanford, Charlotte Lagarde, and JD Scott of B. PUBLIC Prefab will share the story of one family rebuilding with rapid timelines and high-performance expectations: Passive House performance with a foam-free assembly. The first design meeting was in March 2021 and the project’s structural/thermal envelope was installed in September. Learn more.
